The pepper and water science trick is one of the easiest magic tricks you can perform. You only need a few common kitchen ingredients to perform this science magic trick.
- Plate or Bowl
- Bar Soap
- Pour some water onto a plate or bowl. You want it to cover a fairly large part of the plate.
- Sprinkle some pepper onto the surface of the water.
- Place the soap in the center of the plate into the water.
- Watch as the pepper quickly scatters to the edges of the water on the plate.
Pepper is hydrophobic, meaning that water is not attracted to it. When soap is added, the surface tension is reduced, and the water wants to spread out flat. But the water molecules still want to keep the surface tension going, so they pull back away from the soap, and carry the pepper along with them.
